Djémila (Cuicul), near Sétif, is an ancient Roman city founded around 96–97 AD on a mountainous site. It developed into a prosperous settlement with major monuments such as a forum, temples, an arch of triumph, a market, and a basilica. Later, it was strongly marked by Christianity with several religious buildings. Today, it is one of the best-preserved and most impressive Roman archaeological sites in the world.
